One of the massive benefits of choosing LED lighting over traditional lighting methods is the exceptionally long life span of LED bulbs. Light Emitting Diodes have an outstanding operational life expectancy of 100,000 hours, which is effectively 11 years of constant use. Unlike traditional bulbs, the diodes don’t burn out or blow, over time the diodes begin to dim and give off a lower level of light.
LED bulbs are a lot kinder on the environment than traditional fluorescent bulbs and don’t contain any harmful chemicals unlike their counterparts. Traditional fluorescent lighting sources often contain chemicals such as mercury which can be harmful to the environment and hazardous to health if handled incorrectly.
Currently the most efficient method of lighting, LED bulbs have an estimated energy efficiency of 80-90% when compared to a conventional bulb. This effectively means that 80% of the electrical energy that is consumed by an LED bulb is converted to light whilst 20% is lost and converted into other forms of energy such as heat. When compared to a standard fluorescent bulb, the difference in efficiency is huge. Standard bulbs are effectively the reverse of an LED bulb, with an efficiency rating of only 20%!
When converted into Lehman’s terms, this means that Light Emitting Diode bulbs are 4 times as efficient as other forms of lighting, making a huge difference to your electricity bill.
LED bulbs are built with strong and rugged components and are made to withstand some tough conditions. Considering that they are resistant to shock, vibrations and external impacts, as well as being capable of withstanding rain without causing a hazard, they are excellent solutions when it comes to outdoor lighting.
LED lights can be arranged into many different shapes, as well as having the capability of dimming individual diodes, creating a dynamic control over the lighting and making the lights attractive as an added bonus to their efficiency. Well-designed lighting patterns can create illuminations that are both soothing and pleasing to the eye. LED illuminations are already being used on airplanes, in classrooms and many other locations to sooth the mind and I am sure that we can expect this to take off even further in the future.
This is just a small sample of the benefits that are offered by LED lighting and I firmly believe that LED’s are the future and a fantastic innovation that will help us to not only save money, but also the environment and the planet on which we live.
